Food For Epilepsy Patients

Lean Protein

Protein assists in the growth of new cells and the development of the brain. When there are inadequate amounts of it, it begins to draw the body’s supply from the muscles and tissues. Lean protein, however, can help people avoid such epilepsy difficulties. Keep a list of products that include lean protein, such as:

  • Chicken
  • Peanut
  • Red caviar
  • Dairy products
  • Low-fat cheeses
  • Pumpkin seeds

Fruits and Vegetables

They cannot totally stop spasms or treat epilepsy when consumed. However, since fruits and vegetables are a source of vitamins, consuming them can help to improve the immune system and the blood flow to the brain. Therefore, the best strategy to stop epilepsy from getting worse is to include fruits and vegetables in your diet.

  • Pineapple
  • Beet
  • Grapefruit
  • Cranberry
  • Banana
  • Cucumbers

Healthy Fat

Fats are essential to preserving human health. They serve to boost physical activity, making them just as essential to our body as proteins and carbohydrates. Additionally, fats offer the benefit of supporting healthy heart, brain, and nerve function. For this reason, eating foods high in fat is necessary for epileptics to improve their health. These foods consist of:

  • Avocados
  • Yogurt
  • Eggs
  • Seeds
  • Coconut
  • Olive oil

Carbohydrates

Many people believe that carbohydrates are bad for you, you should stay away from them in your diet. But it isn’t at all the case. Carbs are mostly used for energy. They serve as a source of energy for our body. They are consequently necessary, albeit in small quantities. The daily carbohydrate intake for people with epilepsy is approximately 300 g as opposed to the national average of 400 g.

  • Bulgur
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Whole grain bread
  • Oat groats
  • Brown rice

Seafoods

Seafood is a great source of high-quality protein, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and vitamins A, B, D, and E. Frequent seafood consumption provides the body with essential amino acids. Additionally, it improves the way the brain functions by protecting neurons from disease and injury. As a result, it can guarantee clearer brain functioning, which will make these foods much less frequently cause seizures.

  • Oysters
  • Squids
  • Shrimps and crabs
  • Seaweed
  • Mussels

Which Kind Of Food Should Be Avoided If You Have Epilepsy?

An epilepsy diet can be used to treat convulsive syndrome and can help reduce the disease’s secondary physical symptoms. There are several restrictions on what foods people with epilepsy can eat. For instance, sugar and caffeine are the worst things you can put in your body. Seizures could occur as a result of the stress caused by eating them. Thus, situations like this must be avoided by those who have epilepsy. However, there are adverse consequences from other products as well:

  • Sugar
  • Food that contains a large amount of salt
  • Coffee
  • Smoked Products
  • Pickled and salted food
  • Alcohol
  • Trans fats
  • Gluten
  • Carbonated Drinks

Symptoms Of Epilepsy

  • Loss of consciousness.
  • Breathing problems or breathing stops.
  • Stiffening of the body.
  • Jerking movements of the arms and legs.
  • Falling suddenly for no apparent reason, especially when associated with loss of consciousness.
  • Loss of bowel or bladder control.
  • Staring.

I highly recommend Dt. Priyanka and team. The diet plan they gave has done wonders for me and I witnessed results within 1 month. Post Covid I was diagnosed with diabetes and I tried all sorts of ayurvedic and allopathy treatments, however nothing worked for me. My fasting glucose had crossed 300 mg/dl which was alarming. I strictly followed the diet they provided me and gradually my sugar level started dropping. I am so happy to share that within a month's time my fasting sugar is in normal ranges. Even the random sugar last night I obtained was 139mg/dl. All the dieticians are very cooperative, kind and understanding. They also change and suggest diet plans as per your schedule for the day. Massive thanks to the team for educating and guiding.
